Miscellaneous Maintenance

Construction
Ongoing construction projects meet the growing needs of the research activities in the department. These jobs include the remodeling of offices, rebuilding conference rooms, installing new doors, building suspended lab shelving, consoles, lab benches, tops, wall shelving, partitions, lockers, mail boxes, computer desks, etc., etc.
Liquid nitrogen
Liquid nitrogen is used in the research labs and educational programs (e.g. Lecture Demos) and is available for use by faculty, staff and authorized students. The LN2 station is a self-service computer-controlled installation. A code is required for access. Codes are available by filling out the form here. Accurate amounts are dispensed and recorded. There is a monthly billing to users. Compressed gases are stocked in the gas locker, a part of the physics stockroom, as well.
Telephones and equipment installations
Matt DeLong is responsible for department telephones, placing orders for new phones or new features, running phone lines into offices and labs, making repairs, reporting problems, etc. An inventory of single lines and features are checked every 3 months to prevent unnecessary costs in monthly billings, updated codes and charges for equipment. A successful working phone system is essential to the Physics Department and its research facilities.
Chemistry Lab and Darkroom
The Chemistry Lab is maintained under the auspices of the OptoElectronic Materials Laboratory for use by all faculty, staff and students. This Chem Lab functions as an area where chemicals, liquids, and a fume hood are used as an aid to the research labs, and maintained by the user. Hazardous waste is often accumulated and disposed of in this facility. For more information contact Wayne Wingert
