Physics Department Policy Board issues TA funding reminder
March 29, 2007
This memorandum is a reminder of Physics Department policy. Except in rare carses, graduate Teaching Assistantships are only awarded and guaranteed for two academic years. In order for a graduate student to receive an additional year of TA funding, the chair of the supervisory committee must request in writing to the Director of Graduate Studies (Dr. David Kieda) that the extension be granted. The letter must state that the graduate student is making satisfactory progress toward his/her degree, and also include a statement why there is no funding for a Research Assistantship. Finally an estimated graduation date must be stated for the student who is needing the extension.
Since ther are many graduate students in this situation, and there will be an extremely limited number of TA position for fall 2007, these letters should be generated immediately and given to Jackie Hadley to put in the students file.
