Undergraduate Students Go On Summer Utah Adventure

Photos by Allyson Rocks.

On the weekend on June 1st, Research Assistant Professor Bob Cady took students whom were part of the REU/SURP programs out to Dinosaur National Monument for two nights of camping and adventure. Students and staff rafted through Split Mountain Canyon and visited the Quarry to see Dinosaur fossils. They found plenty of fossils and petroglyphs throughout their stay in Split Mountain. On the last day they went into Colorado to enter the Monument from that side. They hiked up the Harper’s Corner Overlook to see the confluence of the Yampa and Green rivers and picnicked in Echo Park before returning to Salt Lake City.

This is one of many marvelous opportunities for students in the Research Experiences for Undergraduates (REU) program. REU is a research experience program in the Department of Physics & Astronomy where undergraduate students work closely with a faculty mentor and their research group on an individual project over the course of 10 weeks in the summer.
