Faculty Opening in Astronomy & Astrophysics

The Department of Physics and Astronomy at the University of Utah invites applications from outstanding candidates for a tenure-track faculty position in astronomy and astrophysics. Candidates from all subfields are encouraged to apply. Candidates whose work would benefit from the University's full institutional participation in the Sloan Digital Sky Survey IV are particularly encouraged. Considerable computing resources are also available through the University's Center for High Performance Computing. The appointment may be made at the level of assistant, associate, or full professor depending upon the qualifications of the successful applicant. The expected start date is August 2016.

The successful applicant will be expected to establish an active research program involving undergraduate and Ph.D. students, to teach two courses per year, and to take an active role in furthering the University’s Astronomy and Astrophysics initiative. Current astronomy and astrophysics research in the Department includes: observational cosmology, galaxy formation and evolution, galactic archaeology and chemodynamics, planet formation, astronomical instrumentation theoretical gravitational dynamics, theoretical particle astrophysics, experimental cosmic ray physics, and gamma-ray astronomy.

This position offers competitive pay and benefits.
