Dr. Springer's current research interests are in the field of Ultra High Energy Cosmic Ray Physics. He is involved in the development and exploitation of the High Resolution Fly's Eye detector (HiRes). This detector is looking for the most energetic particles yet to be observed in the cosmic ray spectrum.
Past research activity was in the field of experimental particle physics. He worked on the OPAL experiment at the Large Electron-Positron Accelerator (LEP) located at the European Laboratory for Particle Physics (CERN). There he was involved in the design, construction and implementation of several of the detector components of the OPAL experiment. He contributed to the measurement of the electroweak parameters related to the Z boson and the b quark. Dr. Springer was also involved in the search for the Higgs Boson at LEP.
