Here we discuss subprogram linkage. We introduce pointers and references and show how they are used to pass values into and out of subprograms. If you are seeing these concepts for the first time, you might find them pretty confusing. A combination of rereading this chapter and working exercises is the best way to become familiar with them. The next chapter explains how the compiler deals with them, so that chapter should also help.
