Receiving mail sent to your Physics account using Squirrel Mail

Students in the Physics department will probably find the departmental mail utility http://mail.physics.utah.edu the easiest tool for reading their departmental mail. The underlying software is called ``Squirrel Mail''. That utility can be accessed from anywhere on the internet, so mail is always available.

If you would rather receive all your departmental mail in another account (for example, a personal gmail.com account), you can have it forwarded automatically. To do this, you should create a one-line file in your home directory called .forward. (Be sure to include the "dot" as the first character.) On that line, simply put the forwarding e-mail address, e.g. eagerstudent@aol.com. After you create the file, set permissions as follows:

   chmod 400 ~/.forward
To stop forwarding, delete this file.
