Creates a new directory. You will probably find it convenient in this course to keep your assignment files in separate directories. Thus you might want to create a directory a01 for files pertaining to assignment 1. Do this with the command

   mkdir a01
To see that you succeeded, use ls to list the current directory. You should see an entry a01/ The slash / is not part of the name. It is a special flag attached by ls to remind you that a01 isn't a file, but a directory.
