This command is used to make a copy of a file. To make a copy of the file junk and call the copy junk2 do

   cp junk junk2
Try this. After you do, use ls to display your files. You should see a new entry for the file junk2. Use cat or more to display the file junk2 to verify that the copy was faithful.

If you want to copy the file to a new directory called newdir, but keep the same name in the new directory, first be sure you have created the new directory (see mkdir below) and then use

   cp junk newdir
Use ls newdir and cat newdir/junk to check your result.
