In Darfur government backed Baggara also known as Janjaweed militia have killed an estimated 400,000 people and over 2 million people have been displaced from their homes, mostly seeking refuge in camps in Darfur's major towns and the neighboring republic of Chad. Of these the vast majority were women and children who have never had any say in the politics of the conflict. If you would like to help, please visite the web site of Amnesty International.

The Darfur region is located in the west of Sudan which is in north-west Africa.

A destroyed village:

This village has been burned to the ground. Only the blackened foundations of former homes remain.
