Remarks from Eljean, a Havasupai member

The mail is up and running. The electricity is still on. The water is fine. The infrastructure in the village is fine. We had a slight problem with some E coli but that has cleared out. The villagers are going the back way down to the campground because they are curious. Reservations are being refunded so that is quite a loss. Water is being flown in. This is a big loss for the packers who's main income is tourists. Social services is helping for just September. The governor will not declare it a state of emergency so the tribe is applying to the federal government to declare it an emergency.

There is a lot of help to be used. It looks like a nuclear bomb was dropped. It looks like Hiroshima down towards Navajo Falls. The really nice swimming hole is no longer there. It will never be there anymore. I'm still smiling even through this aftermath - I live about 200 yards away from the creek.
