Homework and Exams

All homework is submitted within the WebAssign environment. Students are responsible for their own WebAssign (https://www.webassign.net/utah/login.html) access and payment via credit/debit card or PayPal account on line. You will have two options:

1. For $89 one time, you receive access to all WebAssigncourses and a printable eBook for the lifetime of the book edition. If you are a continuing student you may have already paid for this option. No further payment is necessary. If you are new to WebAssign you can choose homework and e-book for one semester--$62.
2. For $37 per semester you receive access to WebAssign homework but no eBook. You will have to already own or procure a hard copy elsewhere.

Do not disregard the importance of the homework part of your course grade. Your final HW submission must be done no later than 11:59 p.m. on their due date. The purpose of the discussion section is to allow you to get all the assistance you need to help you submit finished and correct homework. Do not disregard the importance of the discussion part of the course. In general, students who attend discussion sections regularly, do better in the course. The actual assignments are accessed individually by each student when they enter the WebAssign website (https://www.webassign.net/utah/login.html). The numerically lowest three homework scores will be dropped when we compute the homework score for the semester.

Each midterm is worth 100 points. The final is worth 180 points, and the homework will be scaled to 150 points maximum. The lowest midterm and the three lowest homework scores will be dropped. I reserve the right to establish an "exam score" (final + best 3 midterms) below which I will NOT give a grade above D+.

You are allowed to bring to each midterm one (and only one) 3 × 5 file card with whatever information on it you wish. You are allowed two (and only two) 3 × 5 cards for the final exam. Bringing or using any other material, except a hand calculator, is cheating. You need to know your TA's name and your discussion section number at the exams. You need to bring a student picture ID to all exams. Any dispute over the grading of an exam must be brought to my attention BEFORE the next exam. The mechanism will be explained in class.
